Dear Max,
On Saturday you turned 4 months old. You are starting to be a lot more fun now. You like to reach for things and hold things and put them in your mouth. You smile and laugh all the time and it is so adorable. The theme of the month is your hand in your mouth. I kept thinking you were going to suck your thumb or something but you don’t have a pattern yet. You suck your middle two fingers sometimes, your thumb other times and sometimes you just stick your whole hand in your mouth. I know you do it to comfort yourself because when I put you down for a nap you immediately start sucking your hand and after a while you fall asleep. It is so nice for you to be able to go to sleep on your own. Sometimes you will protest for a few minutes but you usually don’t for more than 30 seconds. I think you know it is time to sleep and you accept the fact that until you do I am not coming to get you. You are learning to conform.

This month I found out something you love. You love to go for walks in your stroller. I used to try to push you around in the stroller with the car seat snapped into the stroller, but because of your disdain for the car seat I assumed you hated it altogether. I was wrong. Now that you are big enough to sit up in the stroller you love it. I got a jogging stroller for my birthday and we take a 45 minute walk every afternoon. You love just looking around at everything and sometimes it makes you fall asleep. I look forward to our walks and I’m not sure what I will do now that it is starting to get colder.

The other day I attempted to sit you in the grocery cart, but you kept slumping over. I think if I could lean it back a little bit you would be able to sit in it but I think you need another month or two before you will be able to sit straight up without much support. You do sit in your high chair at home a lot and you like to sit in it and watch us eat or play with your toys or sippy cup, you like to drink water out of it or just chew on the handle.
I got you laughing pretty good a few night ago, without tickling you. I had you laying on our bed and I was just playing with you and I started making you bounce up and down on the bed. It was very funny because you would giggle and then put your hand in your mouth. I did get it on video. I play kind of rough with you and you like it. I bounce you hard on my knee and roll you around on the ground, I am always thinking of new ways to entertain you- it’s my job.
A couple of nights ago the three of us went for a walk and daddy strapped you in the carrier. I haven’t used it in a while and now you can face outward and you seemed to have a good time bouncing along while we talked.
I decided to go ahead and give you some bananas and some cereal. You made a horrible face at first, but you really liked it. You were opening your mouth in anticipation of the next bite and then as soon as I put the food in your mouth you put your hand in your mouth too- it is very messy.

Time is flying by and you are getting so big. You have your 4 month check up this week so we will see how big you are. I know you weigh around 15 lbs and you are at least 25 inches long. I look foward to each day I get to play with you and I thank God that I am able to stay home and be with you all day.
I love you so much.
Love,
Mama
